Disinformation in Belgium and Luxembourg: from exposure to belief

Oct 19, 2023

In this talk, Jonas Lefevere, post-doctoral researcher at M²P research group (UA) and research professor in Political Communication at Brussels School of Governance (VUB), has presented novel research from the EDMO BELUX project on the spread of disinformation in Belgian and Luxembourgish society. A comparative survey of citizens of the two countries reveals which citizens are most likely to get exposed to and to believe in disinformation. The presentation covers how people’s belief and exposure to disinformation connects to their use of media, and to their trust in politics and media. It also sheds light on how people’s belief in conspiracy theories makes them more vulnerable to novel disinformation campaigns.
