Aug 24, 2023

Lydie Denis, a doctoral student at the Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles, took part in the DiscourseNet conference An analytical framework integrating Narrative Analysis within a Discourse-Historical Approach. The congress held from 25 to 28 July 2023 at the University of Valencia.

Lydie Denis presented a paper entitled “The link between time and discourse shaping the political response to the COVID-19 crisis”.

Here is the abstract :

This communication focuses on an analytical framework established to study the evolution of discourses on time and temporality in the decision-making process of the COVID-19 crisis. This analytical framework is linking the aspects of time and discourse by integrating the diachronic aspect and the way time is elaborated within discourse, allowing it to become meaningful, to regulate social practices (Van Leeuwen, 2005) and at the same time to convey the subjective experience of actors (De Fina, 2018). It relies on the Discourse-Historical Approach developed by Wodak (2015; 2022) and Reisigl (2017) and narrative analysis (De Fina, 2022; 2003).
